Discover Réunion Island
The North
Saint-Denis, the capital of Réunion, located in the northern part of the island, is where travelers first set foot as they come to discover Réunion. The North captivates visitors with its beauty and tropical vegetation.
The West
Famous for its beaches and lagoon, the west coast has a drier, sunnier climate. It’s a little slice of Réunion in its seaside, very touristy version.
The South
The south is the most authentic and untamed part of Réunion Island. With its ocean-battered coastline, beaches, volcanic terrain, and Creole houses, nature reigns supreme in this part of the island.
The East
Eastern Réunion is a land of contrasts, with its volcano, primary forests, and waterfalls.
The Cirques: Mafate, Salazie, and Cilaos
Reunion Island is home to three natural cirques: Mafate, Salazie, and Cilaos. They dominate the landscape, with Piton des Neiges at their center. Mafate is accessible only on foot; Salazie is the most lush of the three, with its majestic waterfalls; and Cilaos offers the ascent to Piton des Neiges—the roof of the Indian Ocean.
The Volcano
Piton de la Fournaise, which rises to an elevation of 2,621 meters, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It covers a very large portion of the island, accounting for 40% of its total area.
